Support groups provide new ways to handle challenges, cope with changes, and maintain new behaviors. A characteristic unique to support groups is the mutual support members are able to provide one another. This support and validation from other group members help facilitate personal growth and change in a way that individual therapy cannot. The mutual exchange of information between group members is a powerful experience that often induces lasting change, and is an important part of one’s overall Recovery Plan

 
 

One on One Support
Contacting NAMI is the first step in getting support. To talk to someone, you can use the Contact Us link above to get statewide information, or the Local Chapters link to the left to get local information. The person you speak to will be able to connect you with community resources. They may also have experienced what you are experiencing. Sharing with them can be very helpful. This is the first step in joining a local support group.

Attend a weekly Support Group Meeting

  NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group

 
 

This is a 90-minute weekly support group run by persons who live with mental illness for other persons with any diagnosis who also live with mental illness. 


 

NAMI Family Support Group

 

This is a 90-minute weekly support group run by persons whose family member or friend lives with mental illness for other persons with any diagnosis whose family member or friend lives with mental illness.
