Support groups
provide new ways to handle challenges, cope with changes, and maintain
new behaviors. A characteristic unique to support groups is the mutual
support members are able to provide one another. This support and
validation from other group members help facilitate personal growth
and change in a way that individual therapy cannot. The mutual
exchange of information between group members is a powerful experience
that often induces lasting change, and is an important part of one’s
overall Recovery Plan

Contacting NAMI
is the first step in getting support. To talk to someone, you can use
the Contact Us link above to get statewide information, or the Local
Chapters link to the left to get local information. The person you
speak to will be able to connect you with community resources. They
may also have experienced what you are experiencing. Sharing with them
can be very helpful. This is the first step in joining a local support
group. To talk to others who have experienced what you are going
through, attend a local support group meeting. To find the nearest one
